Transfers a part of ATP to methionine to form SAMe (the universal methyl donor). The GG genotype is linked to higher oxidative DNA damage (high 8-OHdG) and doesn’t respond as well to vitamin B6 in lowering that damage. Essentially, this variant might reduce SAMe production, affecting methylation and raising oxidative stress if not managed.
